Let’s be honest: most bathroom heaters are kind of a joke. You turn them on, wait ten minutes, and the room is still chilly—unless you’re standing directly in front of a loud, dusty blower. Plus, steam and splashes are a nightmare for electronics. Most standard lamps just can’t handle the humidity and end up corroding or shorting out way too soon. That’s why we’ve moved toward waterproof infrared heaters. Here’s the thing about the physics: standard heaters try to warm up the air. But air is slippery; it moves. Infrared is different. Since the heat radiates downward, you don’t need them right in your face to feel the glow. But, there are a couple of things you need to watch out for. First, these units pull a decent amount of power. If you’re putting a few of them in one big bathroom, check your breaker box. You don’t want to trip the power halfway through a shower because your old electrical lines can’t keep up. Also, a fair warning: those glass tubes gethot. Really hot. Just make sure they’re mounted high enough so nobody accidentally brushes against them.
