
Getting Your Sidel SMF Blower Lamps to Actually Fit
Let’s be honest: nobody wants to spend their shift hacking away at a machine frame just to get a replacement lamp to fit. It’s a headache you don’t need. That’s why we built our replacement lamps to bridge the gap between those old-school SBO systems and the newer Matrix series. We kept it simple. They’re a direct drop-in. You take the old one out, put ours in, and it matches the original Sidel footprint exactly. No drilling, no bending, no stress.
The Nerd Stuff (Power and Heat)
Sidel blowers are picky. They need a very specific kind of infrared energy to get those preforms soft enough to blow. We’ve matched the voltage and wattage of the SMF series perfectly. We use a compact quartz tube to pack in a lot of heat, which is the only way to keep your cycle times fast. You need that intensity to hit the “glass transition temperature” evenly across the PET. But a word of caution: don’t try to “overclock” these by pushing the wattage higher than the factory specs. You’ll either fry the lamp or melt your reflector housing. Stick to the specs.
No Hacks Required
We spent a lot of time on the mechanical side of things. The end caps and connector pins are machined to fit Sidel sockets like a glove. That means you can forget about hunting for wiring adapters or messing with brackets. We also used high-grade quartz glass because these things go through a lot of thermal shock—turning on and off rapidly is brutal on materials. Plus, we added a special coating to make sure the energy actually hits the PET where it counts.
A Few Tips to Keep Them Running
Now, the lamps fit and they work, but you’ve still got to take care of your gear. These lamps pump out a massive amount of energy in a tiny space. If your oven’s cooling fans are choked with dust or the airflow is blocked, the lamp is going to run way too hot. That’s a shortcut to a dead filament. And please, keep your reflectors clean. A dirty reflector is basically a wall—it stops the heat from hitting the preform and forces the lamp to work twice as hard. That’s how you end up with premature failures. Keep it shiny, and your lamps will last much longer.
